These saints are featured in two separate one-light windows at the west end of the south aisle of the church. Both saints are shown with croziers and Bibles, but a bareheaded St Augustine is shown in the habit of a Benedictine monk, while St Nicholas, to whom the church is dedicated, wears a bishop's mitre and cope. St Nicholas carries on the Bible the three golden balls that commonly represent his gifts to an indigent father: these enabled the man to marry off his three daughters so that they could lead respectable lives. This is the legend behind St Nicholas's association with gift-bearing — his Santa Claus aspect. Both saints look youthful and are clean-shaven, a particular surprise in the case of St Nicholas, who is often shown with white hair and a flowing beard.
