This is the second in a sequence of 10 scenes in a montage telling the story of the Farmer, his Daughter, and their unfortunate fall. This colour illustration shows the Farmer proudly trotting on the horse – pride that will shortly be followed by the fall. Caldecott presents the scene in his usual terms as a rural idyll populated by characters wearing Regency costumes.
