Cloth binding for ‘Huon of Bordeaux’

Fred Mason

1895

Cloth binding

8½ x 6¾ inches

An elaborate, highly-stylized design in the manner of Selwyn Image and Charles Ricketts. The contrast of stiff verticals and sinuous curves also resembles the conventions of the Glasgow style while suggesting the heraldic art of French medievalism: a typically eclectic design of the period which borrows promiscuously from a number of sources.
