Professor Michael Faraday

Sir Thomas Brock, K.C.B., R.A. 1847-1922

Marble

1877

J. H. Foley began work on the monument, completing a sketch model and head of Faraday. After he died Brock, his assistant, completed the statue. The work is generally ascribed to Foley.

“The statue is now in the hall of the Royal Institution, which is perhaps the most suitable place for it, since it was in the Royal Institution laboratory that Michael Faraday pursued his fruitful discoveries” — Illustrated London News
