St. Paul's Cathedral, London.
. Mosaic designed by Sir William Blake Richmond (1842-1921) in the Quire ofClose-up of central roundel.
Jesus sits with wide open arms, welcoming and protective, perhaps also as if blessing the flock of sheep that surround him. Most are grazing, but one lamb sits close to his feet; another has been gathered up and rests on his lap. The scene brings to mind the biblical text, "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep" (John 10, 11).
