After studying with his uncle in Winchester, Lucas attended the Royal Academy schools where he came under the influence of Richard Westmacott. Between 1829 and 1859 he exhibited busts, medallions, and mythological groups at the Royal Academy, and he also sculpted the seated figure of Dr Johnson for Litchfield (1838) and Dr. Watts in Southampton (1858). — Block, p. 163.
