Grave of the architect Samuel Sanders Teulon (1812-1873). c.1873. Highgate Cemetery, west side, Swains Lane, London. The grave is marked by a raised stone cross carved along its length, somewhat damaged now, and a carved headstone with a very appropriate Gothic quatrefoil. [Click on the photos to enlarge them.]

Detail showing Teulon's name.

Interestingly Teulon's grave lies on the main pathway, down from the Rowland Hill family vault (though Rowland Hill himself is buried in Westminster Abbey) and they were neighbours in life too – they both lived on Hampstead Green, a row of four houses long since demolished and now the site of the new research annex of the Royal Free Hospital.
