Caerphilly Castle, South Glamorgan, Wales — view from the south. Built by Gilbert de Clare, completed circa 1275. The largest castle in Wales, Caerphilly Castle has a concentric plan surrounded by elaborate water barriers. In the 1930s the 4th Lord Bute of Cardiff partially restored the castle.
