. John Gordon Thomson (1841-1911), artist and e,ngraved by one of the Dalziels. Source:Said our Artist to himself: — “Well, I’m not a bad-tempered man, but I should like to know what the Blank Blank people mean by taking up my time and my studio for their Blanked private twaddle.”
This cartoon by the artist who does some the magazine’s best editorial cartoons takes the magazine’s usual approach to the art world, either mocking pretentious artists or, more often as here, their Philistine audiences. Like much of this artist’s work, it contains details of contemporary male and female dress.
