Betty Elzea describes the drawing in these terms: "Waist-length figure of a young woman with her arms crossed in front of her breast. She is facing slightly to the left in relation to the spectator and is seen from a low viewpoint. Her long, curling hair falls down over her breast. A halo hovers over her head. Her eyes are downcast, and tears drop from her eyelids. Behind her are hazy hills, which recede into the distance, where, on the right, in a nimbus of light, can be seen two angels kneeling on either side of a tomb(?)" (248).
