Emily Augusta Andrews (1824-1860) married Coventry Patmore, poet and friend of Millais and the Pre-Raphaelites, in 1847. According to Sarah Eron, she became a "poetic icon in Patmore's growing literary circle. Not only was she the inspiration for The Angel in the House, but she had her portrait painted by Millais and was highly admired amongst Patmore's literary circle (including Brett, Browning, Ruskin, and Carlyle). Patmore's poem 'Amelia' is also rooted in his relationship with Emily and is reminiscent of both his proposal to her and their honeymoon at Hastings."
