Menpes found these workers much more lively than the embroiderers, whom he had found bending silently over their work for hours on end. It is not apparent from this single figure, but he enjoyed seeing "the happy boisterous metal-workers talking and laughing amid the clanging of their little hammers" (172). — Jacqueline Banerjee
