Ramsgate, West Cliff by Nineteenth-century British artist. Watercolor, 9 3/4 x 13 3/4 inches. Dated 1857 and inscribed on secondary backing with title. “The view, encompassing a wealth of period detail, is from the Paragon, looking towards Nelson Crescent and the Royal Albion Hotel. The large red structure is a tide marker, operated by a ingenious system of cables and visible from miles away at land and sea” (Maas catalogue).
