Commentary by Paul Crowther

The lithograph of Gaetano is of mainly biographical interest. Only one other copy is known—accompanied by a lithograph of Francesco Polidori, and tipped into a copy of Il Losario: Poema Eroica Romanzesco di Ser Francesco Polidori, "edited and augmented by his nephew Gaetano Polidori." Fredeman notes that the lithographs were done at Gaetano’s request and that they must have been done, accordingly, before his death on December 23rd 1853 (Fredeman 9–10, plate 70b).
