Lines printed with the title: "Maud is only seventeen / But she is tall and stately" (from Tennyson's Maud — although it should be "not," as in the poem and also the list of illustrations, rather than "only." This is the beautiful young woman with whom the troubled narrator falls in love, in the lovely garden of her father's house, where she tends his flowers.
