Biography

According to the catalogue for the Handley-Read Collection, "William Breakspeare studied in Paris under Thomas Couture, and was a foundation member of the Birmingham Art Circle. He was also a member of the Newlyn School in Cornwall. His pictures are usually genre subjects or costume pieces, mainly of 18th-century history. . . . Breakspeare exhibited at the RA between 1891-1903, also with the Royal Society of British Artists and at the Grosvenor Gallery."
