aul Goldman is Honorary Professor in the School of English, Communication and Philosophy at Cardiff University, and formerly an Associate Fellow in the Institute of English Studies, University of London. Goldman was for many years a curator of prints and drawings at the British Museum.
He has published widely in the field of Victorian illustration; in addition to numerous essays and chapters in monographs on painters and illustrators, he is the author of nine books on graphic design, history and technique, most recently Master Prints Close-Up (2012). His Victorian Illustration (1996, 2004) is the standard study of mid-century illustrators. He co-edited, with Simon Cooke, Reading Victorian Illustration, 1855–1875 (2012), and recently appeared on a BBC documentary programme on Pre-Raphaelite illustration.
