Eighty Picturesque Views of the Thames and Medway.
. Steel engraving. Drawn by T. Shepherd and engraved by Abresch. FromText accompanying the engraving
It has five immense semi-elliptic arches, the centre embracing 152 feet, and the two narrowest 130 feet each, which latter exceeds in extent the span of any other stone bridge in Europe. Immediately on leaving the bridge are seen the picturesque ruins of the old London-bridge, erected between the years 1176 and 1209, and the first that crossed the river at the metropolis, and from whence the port of London originally commenced.
