Rosamond's frivolity and incomprehension, and Lydgate's puzzlement and disappointment, are both vividly captured here, partly in Rosamond's flounced dress and averted gaze, and Lydgate's posture, but mainly in their facial expressions. The mismatch could not be clearer.
