The Assumption of the Virgin Mary, by Shrigley & Hunt, the west window of one of the nave aisles, in the Cathedral Church of St Peter (RC), Lancaster. This is not a common theme in English stained glass windows, since it is a tenet of the Catholic church rather than of the Protestant denominations — there is no clear basis for it in the Bible. Artists have accorded the same privilege to Mary Magdalene (see Related Material below). In front of the window, to the left, is a large bronze seated statue of St Peter, to whom the Cathedral Church is dedicated.
