Adoration of the Magi, by F. Hamilton Jackson (1848-1923), with a closer view of the Magi, in St Alban's Church, Acton Green, London W4. This is the first (southernmost) of a sequence of three windows by Hamilton in the baptistry at the west end of the church. No date is given but it is in memory of "Admiral John Harper, CB, Knight of Hanover, and Mary Anne Harper his wife." The infant, standing firmly like a homunculus on his mother's lap, is depicted in a mannered way; but the Magi look suitably awestruck and reverent, and the earthy tones are also naturalistic. The draped background gives a sense of continuity between the two lights, and adds a feeling of dramatic revelation.
