Ezekiel and Daniel

Heaton, Butler and Bayne

North Chancel stained glass window

c.1883

St Mary Magdalene Church, Enfield

This chancel window is one of the original ones in the church, made up to designs by the architect William Butterfield himself. Both windows on this side of the chancel feature prophets of the Old Testament, and are in a similar style, using similar colours. This one shows Ezekiel with his quill and scroll, and Daniel with his crown, sceptre and (it seems) tablet. It is dedicated to the memory of "Revd. John Twells, MA, Rector of Gamston Nottinghamshire, & Prebendary of Lincoln" who died in 1875. He was the elder brother of Philip Twells, in whose memory the church was built.
