The three side windows in the chancel of this church are all in memory of Mary Elisabeth Bateson de Yarburgh, who died in 1884. This highly expressive one, with Mary and the infant Jesus both raising their hands (in wonder and blessing, respectively), and the shepherds in attitudes of wonder too, is fully blocked in with colours and might indeed serve to dim the light (see Pevsner and Neave 57). The other two both show Resurrection scenes. [Commentary continues below.]

As a group, these windows are similar in style to work by Capronnier at Offham near Lewes, in Sussex, or perhaps at Long Preston in Yorkshire, and are therefore thought to be by that famous Belgian firm. In support of this is the fact that the Hodgson firm, which produced the patterned East window, is known to have installed and restored windows by J. B. Capronnier ("Our Story").
