The three side windows in the chancel of this church are all in memory of Mary Elisabeth Bateson de Yarburgh, who died in 1884. This highly expressive one, with Mary and the infant Jesus both raising their hands (in wonder and blessing, respectively), and the shepherds in attitudes of wonder too, is fully blocked in with colours and might indeed serve to dim the light (see Pevsner and Neave 57). The other two both show Resurrection scenes. [Commentary continues below.]
