Jesus Meets His Blessed Mother, the fourth Station of the Cross. Designed by John Standen Adkins, assistant to the architect James Brooks, at St John the Baptist Church, Holland Road, Kensington, London. This is definitely a later "Station" among the set, which the church's listing text dates to 1912-15, because the plaque below it reads, "Gift of the Women of the Church 1914." Mary's blue robe stands out, and makes it a particularly beautiful one. The emotion of the moment is captured, as pity is reflected on every face. This scene is not actually found in the gospels, but — "there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him" (Luke 23, 27).
