James Brooks, at St John the Baptist Church, Holland Road, Kensington, London. This is definitely a later "Station" among the set, which the church's listing text dates to 1912-15, because the plaque below it reads, "Gift of the Women of the Church 1914." Mary's blue robe stands out, and makes it a particularly beautiful one. The emotion of the moment is captured, as pity is reflected on every face. This scene is not actually found in the gospels, but — "there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him" (Luke 23, 27).
