Linely Sambourne made the Earl of Dufferin number 32 in the Punch series of Fancy Portraits. In the course of Lord Dufferin’s prestigious career he governed geographically large parts of the British Empire: he held positions as both Viceroy of India and Governor General of Canada, and he also served as as ambassador to Russia, Italy, France, and Turkey.
