Nora's Letter

Nora's Letter

Marcus Stone

He Knew He was Right, by Anthony Trollope (facing p. 31)

Nora is shown replying to Hugh Stanbury's first love-letter to her. She tells him honestly, "I have been made so happy by your affectionate letter," and promises to be true to him, a promise she will keep (31). Ellen Moody points out that "Trollope's illustrators repeatedly depicted his characters hunched over their desks writing or bent over their letters reading them."
