An intense conversation, communicating important information between the participants while emphasising the rustic setting. The informal poses contrast with the stiff gestures of the less communicative characters. The illustration further acts as a piece of casual realism, rooting the fiction in the everyday world of smoking and top-hats, with two men perching awkwardly on a gate.
