A illustration for ‘the Giant and the Dwarf,’ by Oliver Goldsmith. Wood engraving by Paterson. Roses and Holly, London & Edinburgh: Nimmon, 1874, 9. 3½ at highest point x 4 inches. This image of fey fairy-telling is very typical of Charles Doyle’s illustration; it is also very close, stylistically, to the work of his brother Richard, especially in the treatment of the ‘damsel.’
