Accompanying an article on golf, this humorous design tells us much about the pastime as it was conducted in 1863, with urchins carrying the clubs as people mill around on what appears to be scrub rather than a green. Doyle amusingly characterizes the players as they watch an attempt to putt the ball. The design may be a hit at the game as it was practised in Scotland, as being more rough and ready than in England.
