Nimmo of Edinburgh specialized in second-tier, octavo-sized gift books (below the expensive quartos of Routledge and Co.), and this is a prime example of the company’s marketing strategies. Produced during the golden period of gift books, its aim was to create intense visual pleasure as it competed for attention in the bookseller’s window.
