Cloth binding for ‘Popular Nursery Tales and Rhymes’

John Sliegh; signed ‘IS’ on the backstrip

[1859]

Cloth binding

7½ x 5½ inches

A memorable design by Sliegh, embellished with jaunty and unusual shapes blocked in gilt which were intended to appeal to a juvenile audience. The bold lettering on the spine and front board are typical of Sleigh’s pragmatic approach to labelling.
