Cloth binding for ‘Fleet Street Ecologues’

J. Walter West

1896

Cloth binding

7 x 4¼ inches

West’s design bears comparison with Talwin Morris’s bindings, especially in his deployment of the songbirds and the sinuous lines and abstracted flowers partake of the wider discourse of Art Nouveau. Published by John Lane, the book is another example of a cheap imprint presenting a cover design of pleasing effect; it is repeated on the title-page.
