Cloth binding for ‘Etching in England’

Joseph William Gleeson White

1895

Cloth binding with gilt overlays

9½ x 6¾ inches

Another of Gleeson White's organic designs in the style of Art Nouveau, suggestive of both vine-tendrils and the stems of flowers. The bold title=panel typifies the artist's emphasis on bold clarity; the ensemble as a whole is prefigurative of Art Deco, and could easily be mistaken for a book of the 1920s.
