Randolph Caldecott

1881

Paper cover with a wood-engraving by Edmund Evans

9 x 8 inches

Caldecott’s vision of England the Idyll, with a comedic note included in the form of the sheep, which are branded with the artist’s initials. Evans’s engraving in colour is as usual highly accomplished, producing an effective image from bold blocking in a very limited palette.
