Binding for The Home Affections of the Poets

Albert Warren, designer

1858

Gilt blocking on crimson cloth.

9 x 6¾ inches

A binding signed by Warren on the spine. An elaborate composition which reflects the designer’s capacity to work in an eclectic range of styles. The front board seems Oriental (an idiom uncharacteristically unsuited to the contents of the book, which is mainly of traditional English verse), while the spine is a foliate design and more typical of the artist’s work.
