This was designed by J. P. Pritchett (1789-1868) in 1851, and was the most important Primitive Methodist chapel in York in the second half of the nineteenth century. Like so many other chapels, it had galleries supported on cast iron pillars and a Sunday School in the basement; seating for 1000 was provided. It was sold in 1901, but some interior features may remain (Inventory building 26; pl.66, fig. 30; Pevsner and Neave 234).
