Bas reliefs of Old Testament Scenes
These bas reliefs are part of sixty panels in the Chapter Room of Salisbury Cathedral (where in 2016 one of the original copies of the Magna Carta was on display). These panels narrate important Old Testament events from the Creation to Moses receiving the Ten Commandments or Old (i.e. Judaic) Law fulfilled and supplanted by Christ. Some of the scenes depict events, such as Moses String the Rock and Noah’s ark, that were read as types and shadows of Christ. — George P. Landow

Carvings of animals on the base of columns
I photographed these figures, which appear at the base of a column, because they exemplify the kind of work Alfred Waterhouse emulated in his Natural History Museum five centuries later.
