Young woman

Young woman

William Ralston

Albumen print, probably early 1870s.

3¾ x 2 ½ inches

Simon Cooke Collection

This portrait of an elegant young woman shown in profile is a departure from the usual carte, which is usually full-length. The lighting of the face and lace collar is of a high order and represents one of the best of Ralston’s productions.
