cholarly research requires dedicated focus, yet funded time remains one of the hardest resources to secure. The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the annual Linda H. Peterson Fellowship, an award designed specifically to address this critical need.
The Peterson Fellowship awards up to $20,000 (USD) to support a single researcher for a four-month period dedicated to primary research on the British newspaper and periodical press of the long nineteenth century (ca. 1780–1914). It is open to independent researchers, retired scholars, and academic faculty across all career stages (excepting graduate students).
We strongly encourage applications that broaden traditional boundaries, including global print networks, colonial archives, and underrepresented press histories and print cultures. Review our submissions criteria and submit your application by 15 November 2026.
