Marianne Preindlsberger studied for five years in Munich before moving to Paris. She met her future husband, Adrian Stokes (1854-1935) whilst painting in Brittany, and they married in 1884. The two of them shared an exhibition, "Dutch Life and Landscape," at The Fine Art Society in February 1900.

The Fine Art Society, London, has most generously given its permission to use information, images, and text from its catalogues in the Victorian Web. This generosity has led to the creation of hundreds and hundreds of the site's most valuable documents on painting, drawing, sculpture, furniture, textiles, ceramics, glass, metalwork, and the people who created them.
