Commentary by Paul Crowther

This picture represents Leighton's sister in Renaissance dress, against an Italianate landscape background. It is a companion piece to similar sized self-portrait of the artist done in the same year. The work has been significantly fire damaged.

Exhibited at the "Italian Art and Britain" exhibition, Royal Academy of Arts 1960, no. 114; Royal Academy Winter Exhibition "British Portraits" 1956–57; Sheffield City Art Galleries "Victorian Painting" exhibition, September/November 1968.
