Near Southbourne by Wilfrid Ball, RBA, RE (1853-1917) Before 1917. Watercolour illustrated in Hind 154. Property of Miss S. N. Bolton. Southbourne is a quieter part of the seaside resort of Bournemouth, with a long sandy beach. It was typical of Ball to depict somewhere which would be less frequented and more serene. The main attractions here are the tufts of long grass and sparse trees in the sandy soil, with only the dunes in sight — and no people at all.
