he Victorian Jewish Writers Project warmly invites expressions of interest from those who would like to participate in a virtual roundtable on the centenary of Israel Zangwill's death. Zangwill died on 1 August 1926, and we plan to hold the event in early August 2026.
Contributions may address any aspect of Zangwill's life, writings, or legacy. Topics might include (but are not limited to):
- Zangwill's Jewish life and identity
- Zangwill's involvement in Zionism and other political movements
- Zangwill's social and political activism
- Zangwill's literary works (fiction, drama, essays)
- Zangwill's life and career in Britain and beyond
- Zangwill's reception and legacy
We are especially keen to hear from participants at all career stages, including graduate students and early-career scholars, as well as from those who may not work primarily on Zangwill but have an interest in his work or wider significance.
