An exceptionally fine pair of rose-water dishes, representing the Seasons, illiustrates at once his strength and his weakness--his mastery over the figure and his weakness in ornamental detail. . . . It is difficult to understand how this group of Loves, flowers, fruits, wheatsheaf, and all, so pretty and so French, can be by the same hand as the ornament" (275).
