Cover design for ‘A Sprig of Honeysuckle’

Probably by Harry Napper

[1896-8]

Cloth binding

6¾ x 5 inches

A striking design by Harry Napper, which was used for several Blackie imprints and acts as a decorative binding rather than a sign of the text’s contents. Napper’s triplicate of figures is framed by lush plant-forms, redolent, this time, of Belgian Art Nouveau rather than the Scottish version practised by Talwin Morris.
