“In Dean Gregory’s time the library occupying the fourth side of Peckwater was at length completed, having been in progress fifty five years, 1716-1771. In 1778 Canterbury quad, beyond Peckwater, a site formerly occupied by Canterbury College, also a gift of Henry VIII., was completed, by the generosity of Dean Markham. In the time of Dean Liddell the college assumed its present appearance” (Lang).
