This is another example of Scott’s meticulous treatment of the rocks and pebbles in the foreground rendered in a Pre-Raphaelite style and with a realistic depiction of the flood current of the incoming tide along the coast. It would have been painted during the summer months when Scott was staying with Alice Boyd at Penkill.
