Memorial to Sir Joseph Bazalgette by George Blackall Simonds. 1901. Bronze bust in decorative stone setting on the Victoria Embankmen. [Click on images to enlarge them.]

This is one of the memorials set at regular intervals into the wall of the Thames Embankment in London, along with (for example) Frampton's for the journalist W. T. Stead. Compared to the fine statue of Brunel near Temple by Marochetti/Shaw, this tribute to the man responsible for the Embankment is not very striking, partly because of its location: it is in the shadow of the new Golden Jubilee bridges.
