  • The Victory figure became a sort of emblem for Gilbert and he frequently gave casts of it to his friends. The elaborate base of this particular cast, with its elongated caryatid figures has a strong stylistic affnity to the Leeds chimney piece, though it lacks its macabre imagery. Gilbert was working on this commission for Sam Wilson from 1908 to 1913.
