Two details: Left: Profile portrait of Bickerton with attributes: The sword and sextant are particularly appropriate for a man who, as the inscription explains, had been “Admiral of the Red Squadron of His Majesty's Fleet, General of His Majesty's Marine Forces, [and] . . . for many years one of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.” Right: Mourning figure.
